The journey begins with a vision of pastoral life. An entrepreneurial couple, avid hosts with a young family, sought to create a warm and inviting space that embraced their love for nature. Rebecca's challenge was to capture this essence while infusing the property with a unique and cohesive style.
Capturing the Calm
'The whole place exudes peace,' Rebecca reflects. Her design approach was to bring the outdoors in, capturing the essence of the estate's diverse landscapes, from formal gardens to wild meadows. This sense of discovery is evident in every corner, with each visit revealing something new.
The color palette is a serene symphony of neutrals, earthy greens, and soft blues, reflecting the countryside's hues and evoking a sense of tranquility. Contrast is achieved through layered fabrics, natural wood, and heritage details, adding warmth and tactility. Floral prints and wallpaper nod to English country style, while textural surfaces like Tadelakt and Zellige tiles bring artisanal charm.
A Space for Conversation and Relaxation
The kitchen, a heart of the home, is designed as a conversational space where family life, cooking, and entertaining converge effortlessly. Formal spaces like the study and playful living rooms cater to multi-generational gatherings. The bedrooms offer a unique blend of home comforts and boutique hotel luxuries, with dressing gowns, slippers, and notepads adding a touch of elegance.
Rebecca's design choices are intentional and thoughtful. Outdoor fabrics find their way indoors, adding robustness and texture. A patterned sofa in the kitchen and full-wrap wallpaper in the dining room embrace pattern without overwhelming. These elements 'zone off' conversational spaces, inviting guests with thoughtful styling touches.
Tonal Layering and Artistic Touches
The beauty of Rebecca's design lies in the tonal layering, a mix of pattern, fabric, and provenance. Visual Comfort pendant lights coexist with antique pieces, Lewis & Wood wallpapers, and Guy Goodfellow fabrics. A Whimsical Retreat
The children's bunk room is Rebecca's most memorable space. A practical yet playful haven, it features a 'magical' den area and bespoke window treatments. A little hatch led to a secret loft, transformed into a den for the bunk beds. 'I would have loved it as a child,' Rebecca says.
The Next Chapter
The project continues with the conversion of a listed livestock barn into a 'cool, glorified pub' with a tech-filled games room, outdoor kitchen, and multifunctional living space. A pool house refresh and another property opposite await Rebecca's touch, as the owners embrace their new life with excitement.
