City of Ely beat local rivals to win Autumn Shield
The City of Ely Swimming Club has won the Autumn Shield Gala hosted by Huntingdon Swimming Club on the evening of Saturday 24th October. Ely City’s swimming club known as the Barracudas beat their local rivals of Huntingdon (the Piranhas), March (the Marlins) and Peterborough (the CoPs).
Ely won “The Piranhas Autumn Shield” by just a single point. It was announced that Ely were leading at half-time and the Club maintained that position all the way ‘til the end and came away with the Shield.
Coach Elaine Hill said: “The team are still celebrating their amazing success in the Junior Fenland League – to win the very next gala is a great achievement for the whole club and shows the quality of swimming is improving across the board.”
The swimmers came away with 13 improved personal best times and 2 new club records both for Jeremy Latham who swam in the Men’s Open 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle races.
